FUNCTIONAL BLOOD CHEMISTRY TESTING AND BALANCING
There are two main types of ranges in the field of blood chemistry analysis: a pathological range and a functional range. The pathological range is used to diagnose disease. The functional range is used to assess risk for disease before it develops. The main difference between them is the degree of deviation within the normal range.
For example, the functional range for glucose may be 85-100 mg/dl, but the pathological range may be 65-110 mg/dl. Levels above the pathological range may indicate diabetes. Levels above the functional range but before they reach the extremes of the pathological range may indicate insulin resistance and the future risk of developing diabetes. Levels between 65 and 85 may indicate reactive hypoglycemia.
By managing biomarkers with nutritional modifications and supplements before they fall within the pathological range the opportunity arises for avoiding pathology and practicing true preventive medicine.
Dr. Betancourt will request and analyze your laboratories from both a pathological and a functional point of view and recommend treatment based on the results of such analysis. To help with the analysis he will use a computer software program.
BIOENERGETIC ASSESSMENT AND BALANCING (EAV)
It is estimated that more than 70% of patients in a general practice suffer from “functional” disturbances. A functional disturbance occurs when no specific tissue or organ damage can be identified by conventional diagnostic methods yet the person still experiences symptoms and does not feel well.
Disease does not begin with pathology, but with a pre-clinical (functional) stage. These functional disturbances occur when the physiology and energy systems of the body can no longer compensate for changes in the external and internal environment of the person.
Ideally then, it would make sense to assess a patient using functional
evaluation methods and treatment protocols. These methods have shown effective
not only in helping identify and correct pre-clinical (functional) disorders
and symptoms but also in reducing or even reversing morphological and
pathological deterioration.
Functional medicine offers the potential to bridge the existing diagnostic
and therapeutic gaps in health care. Dr. Betancourt uses various functional
medicine methods in his practice to help bridge this gap.
One such method is an FDA registered EAV device (Electroacupuncture according
to Voll) that non-invasively, and at no risk, screens for energetic imbalances
in the physiology of the body and /or the presence of toxicity.
FIELD CONTROL THERAPY (FCT®)
Developed by Savely Yurkovsky, MD., it is one of the most comprehensive and effective systems of testing and balancing the human body and its energy field available and it is known for its ability to help people who have exhausted virtually every conventional and alternative therapy.
FCT® is used to determine the areas of the body and its energy field that need strengthening and balancing. It uses a diagnostic test to find weak organs in the body and the toxins causing these weaknesses. Homeopathic remedies are used to eliminate the toxins and restore the strength of the organs.
In contrast to other detoxification programs FCT® provides organ support during the detoxification process thereby minimizing the possibility of redistribution of toxins to other organs.
NUTRITION AND WHOLE FOOD SUPPLEMENTATION
Nutritional counseling and whole food supplementation are key aspects
of the program both for the improvement and maintenance of a higher level
of health
In an ideal world, food would contain all the nutrients necessary to sustain
our health and our lifestyles would allow us the time to eat those nutrients.
Unfortunately that is not the case and as a result we need supplements
to make up the nutritional deficiencies in our diet and lifestyles.
Dr. Betancourt can assist you by offering some basic nutritional counseling and whole food supplementation not as a stand alone modality of treatment but as an adjunct to other approaches he uses. If during the initial evaluation or during the treatment process the need for more specialized nutritional counseling services is identified a referral will be made to a nutritionist or nutritional counselor.
PSYCHOTHERAPY AND CONSTITUTIONAL HOMEOPATHY
During later stages of the program Psychotherapy and/or Constitutional Homeopathy may be used. The constitutional homeopathy may be helpful to fortify the body and raise the overall level of energy. It may also be useful to strengthen the basic constitution, and to minimize the possibility of future recurrences of chronic health issues. Psychotherapy is useful to help deal with emotional issues that interfere with healing. When used in combination, Homeopathy and Psychotherapy are very powerful modalities that may be helpful in the recovery process and in maintaining a high level of wellness.
Psychotherapy services and Homeopathy are only available to patients who have already received other services offered by Dr. Betancourt based on the initial evaluation such as: Blood Chemistry Assessment and Balancing, FCT, EAV.
THE INITIAL VISIT
During the initial visit a complete history will be taken and the questionnaires that were sent to you prior to the visit and that you have completed will be reviewed. That is why it is so important that you complete all the questionnaires and bring them to the first visit. Laboratories will be reviewed (if you bring them to the visit) and new ones may be ordered and the food diary that you completed will be reviewed. A basic low dairy, low refined carbohydrate diet will be briefly discussed during this visit and you will be asked to follow it for better results of the program. A treatment plan will be formulated during this initial interview with some initial dietary recommendations and therapies offered by Dr. Betancourt and if indicated possible referrals to other practitioners.
It is important to understand that while some recommendations may be made during this visit no major therapeutic interventions will be initiated during this initial evaluation as the main purpose of this initial evaluation is to take and review the medical history, review available laboratories, sign informed consents, and discuss the initial treatment plan.
It is also important to understand that sometimes, and for various reasons (complex medical history, patient’s failure to complete the required paperwork, etc), it may not be possible to complete all the above aspects during the initial visit and some of them may have to be completed during the second visit.
HOW LONG WILL TREATMENT LAST?
Treatment of chronic diseases will take time. Remember in most cases it took years for a condition to develop and worsen, so it can’t be expected to be cured overnight. Even though significant symptomatic improvements can be observed after a few sessions it will take an average of 3-12 visits to significantly enhance your overall level of health and well being.
An initial commitment to a 3-month program is required.
Insurance
The initial evaluation is a billable service with most insurance (exceptions: Capital Health, Medicaid and Medicare).
No insurance or credit cards are accepted. We accept check or cash. Payment is due at time of visit and a receipt will be given that you can send to your insurance for possible reimbursement if you so desire. While normally insurance will reimburse you for a certain % of the cost of the services (depending on your contract with your insurance company and what they consider the usual and customary cost of a service to be) there is no guarantee that they will always pay for the services. You are always responsible for the payment even if your insurance refuses reimbursement.
